Lift the mood in late winter with a dreamy display of cool mauve-blue Iris 'Angela'. Despite their delicate looks, these dainty dwarf iris are incredibly tough, taking the most terrible weather in their stride. It’s not just their pretty blooms pushing through in February which make them so heart-warming, it’s also their sheer determination! Plant a potful or tuck a few groups into the little gaps around the garden and watch them glimmer in the winter sun, frost or snow.     

Being a reliable winter flower means Iris reticulata 'Angela' has to be resilient, and it is fully hardy down to probably even lower than -20C. This easy-to-grow perennial dwarf iris can look after itself—just plant the bulbs in autumn and leave them to it. They typically flower during February every year, depending on temperatures. Iris 'Angela' looks best in groups of at least 5-10 bulbs and will also combine well with dwarf irises in other colours, particularly dark purple, cream or pale yellow.
